Start with the scope of your home
For households in Riverside, Corona, Moreno Valley, and other county communities, compare filtration at the scale of the home and the exposure concern. A county advisory can establish local relevance, but it cannot tell you which air purifier or HVAC modification your house needs.
CDC includes indoor air filtration among its measures to reduce exposure. Filtration is not a guarantee against infection. CDC Valley fever prevention
What the county's growth advisory says
Riverside University Health System's August 2025 advisory reported 465 confirmed cases in 2024 and a preliminary 58% increase in 2025 compared with the same period a year earlier. It also identified higher rates in northwest Riverside County. The advisory does not specify the exact comparison cutoff, so the 58% figure should remain a dated preliminary observation, not a claim about all of 2025 or current 2026 conditions. RUHS advisory
The northwest finding does not mean all parts of this geographically large county have equal risk. Give a clinician the actual locations where you live, work, and travel rather than only the county name.

If outdoor air enters through a designed intake
Tell your HVAC provider whether the home has a mechanical fresh-air intake as well as a central return. Filtering recirculated indoor air and managing incoming outdoor air are different parts of the system. Ask where each airstream is filtered and whether the installation matches the equipment's design.
Avoid permanently closing designed ventilation as a general dust strategy. A qualified assessment should account for indoor air quality and safe equipment operation as well as outdoor particles. Keep the proposal focused on identified pathways, not an unsupported claim that more cooling capacity provides better disease protection.
Choose a room purifier by the occupied space
For an illustrative 225-square-foot bedroom with a standard ceiling, AHAM's two-thirds rule gives a starting smoke CADR of 150 CFM. That makes it important to check capacity before choosing the smallest available device. If the fan will run on a quieter setting, allow additional rated capacity and compare performance at that setting. AHAM sizing guidance
The Coway Mighty AP-1512HH lists 233 CFM smoke CADR and is a candidate for comparison. Levoit's Vital 200S-P lists 250 CFM CADR, but its current HEPA-grade language applies to Sleep Mode; do not combine that statement with the maximum-speed rating. Coway specifications, Levoit specifications
Use current seller prices for the exact variant and add replacement-filter expense. These devices are compared for indoor particle cleaning. They have not been established here to prevent Valley fever.

A whole-home quote should show what changes
| Part of the proposal | What the reader should receive |
|---|---|
| Existing filtration | Current filter rating, dimensions, and fit assessment |
| Proposed upgrade | Exact media or cabinet, plus compatibility reasoning |
| Air movement | Airflow/pressure checks and the proposed fan schedule |
| Outside-air pathway | Explanation of intake filtration and intended operation |
| Complete cost | Equipment, labor, necessary alterations, and ongoing media |
MERV 13 or a compatible higher-efficiency filter is a reasonable comparison point. EPA recommends choosing an efficiency the fan and filter arrangement can accommodate. A larger number alone does not establish a successful installation. EPA MERV guidance
If replacement HVAC is proposed, ask what heating, cooling, reliability, or compatibility problem requires it. Obtain the filtration-only option when practical, and separate optional additions from necessary corrections.

Which route fits your household?
The room route can fit a renter, a bedroom priority, or a smaller initial budget. An installed assessment becomes more useful when several rooms, uncertain equipment, or an outdoor-air intake are part of the question. Some homes will use both approaches.
The shared Valley fever filtration guide compares the research and buying criteria in more detail. Keep reducing avoidable outdoor dust exposure as well; indoor equipment addresses only the air it processes.
Request indoor-air-quality help in Riverside County. Include the service city, current equipment, and the rooms of concern. Availability, assessment fees, and installation prices are confirmed directly with the provider. For a room purchase, the manufacturer links above provide specifications to compare before ordering.
If a lingering illness brought you here
Riverside's advisory highlights delayed diagnosis as a local concern. Discuss persistent symptoms with a healthcare professional and mention outdoor dust and travel history. Severe breathing difficulty needs urgent attention. An air-quality product cannot diagnose or treat Valley fever. RUHS health advisory
