The existing heater changes the rebate.

For Eversource, Liberty, and Unitil electric customers, NHSaves lists a standard heat-pump rebate of $250 per ton. Qualifying replacements of working primary electric-resistance heat installed from March 23, 2026 receive an enhanced total of $2,000 per ton. The standard and enhanced figures are not additive.

Confirm the utility and installation window.

The Eversource, Liberty, and Unitil offers have a five-ton cap per account and qualifying-equipment requirements. New Hampshire Electric Cooperative uses a separate application and equipment rules. Rebates depend on available funding. The NHSaves page gives inconsistent December 30 and December 31 installation cutoffs; confirm the final eligible installation day with your utility before scheduling a year-end project. It lists January 30, 2027 as the application postmark deadline.

Verify resistance heat before replacing it.

The enhanced pathway requires pre-verification. NHSaves identifies working, permanent electric resistance used as the primary heat source as eligible; portable space heaters and electric fireplaces do not establish eligibility. Its verification tool asks about the existing heating system and electric utility.

Start that process while the old equipment is still in place. A plan to install a heat pump does not by itself demonstrate that the higher rebate applies.

Check the eligible capacity on the proposal.

At the published rates, three eligible tons would calculate to $750 standard or $6,000 enhanced before other program restrictions. The program uses AHRI cooling capacity to determine tonnage. Have the installer identify that capacity and the qualifying matched system; do not substitute an indoor-unit count for eligible tons.

Resolve these items before a deposit.

Put the current heating type, utility account, proposed equipment, installation date, and rebate category on one project sheet. Ask who handles verification and who submits the final application. Request a copy of any approval and the final equipment schedule.

If the installation date changes, check the incentive again before work starts. Keep your budget workable if the final approved amount differs from the estimate. Compare the full installed price and expected operating costs alongside the rebate.
