Ducted rebates of $3,000–$9,000.
Efficiency Maine lists $3,000 for any-income households, $6,000 for moderate-income households, and $9,000 for low-income households. These are ducted whole-home amounts, with lifetime limits per housing unit.

A primary-heating upgrade.
The whole-home program is for heat pumps used as the primary heating system. Other whole-home configurations use a different per-outdoor-unit schedule. Choose the correct equipment category before comparing offers.

Check the home before choosing equipment.
For the ducted pathway, equipment must be on the eligible list and sized for at least the home’s full peak heating load. Existing homes must have all forced-hot-air furnaces removed as part of the upgrade; new construction must be built without a furnace or boiler.
The home cannot have had a natural-gas utility account before the upgrade. Low- and moderate-income participants must use it as their principal residence. Eligible building types and registered-vendor requirements also apply.

Verify the enhanced rebate tier.
The low-income verification process recognizes participation in programs including HEAP, SNAP, TANF, and income-based MaineCare. The moderate-income route uses adjusted gross income: up to $70,000 for single or head-of-household filers, or $100,000 for the listed married and qualifying-surviving-spouse filing categories. Married applicants filing separately must supply both returns.
Use Efficiency Maine’s verification form to establish your category. Income verification does not guarantee the equipment rebate; the installation must satisfy its separate requirements.

From eligibility check to rebate claim.
Verify enhanced-income eligibility if applicable, hire an Efficiency Maine Residential Registered Vendor, complete the qualifying upgrade, and submit the ducted rebate claim. The claim must be emailed or postmarked within six months of completion. Keep the completed form, invoice, and equipment details together.

Make the quote answer the difficult questions.
Ask the installer to explain the heating-load calculation and what work is included beyond the heat pump itself. Have the proposal identify duct changes, electrical work, equipment removal, and the amount due before any rebate arrives. Compare the complete project price across quotes. A larger advertised rebate does not by itself make one proposal the better value.
