Price the heating decision while replacing the cooling system.

If your AC needs replacement, ask for two complete bids: an AC with the existing heating arrangement, and a heat pump with a stated backup plan. This makes the additional work visible before a rebate changes the apparent price.

Use your Alabama address in the design. For a Mobile-area house with comfort complaints on muggy days, ask bidders to explain moisture control at light cooling load. For a Huntsville-area house, also ask for winter output and backup-energy estimates. Those are questions for your specific home, not sizing rules for either city.

Alabama Power: a specific gas-to-electric offer.

Alabama Power lists a $1,000 incentive for qualifying property owners switching a gas furnace to an all-electric heat pump. The dominant HVAC unit must meet at least 20 SEER or 18 SEER2, and the application is due within 90 days of purchase. The utility says this offer ends permanently December 1, 2026.

Check the active residential account, ownership, matched equipment, and W-9 requirements before committing. An existing heat-pump replacement or a gas furnace kept as backup is a different scope from the advertised all-electric conversion. Ask the utility to confirm eligibility in writing. Do not use the utility’s advertised annual savings as a prediction for your house.

A comfort checklist for the site visit.

Ask the installer to record the rooms that feel damp, the hours the problem occurs, and whether doors are open or closed. Have them inspect the return-air path, accessible ducts, condensate drain, and existing equipment settings. Request the load calculation and an explanation of how the selected system handles both the hottest afternoon and a milder humid day.

For an exposed coastal site, add the equipment manufacturer’s placement, corrosion-care, and warranty requirements to the quote. Have the installer identify the local permit office and obtain the requirements for that property. Keep those site costs in both bids.

Make the conversion price comparable.

If your bill names another utility or cooperative, use that provider’s own program. An Alabama mailing address does not establish Alabama Power eligibility. Keep a gross-price comparison that still works if an unapproved credit is unavailable.

Bring a clear project brief to your installer.

Start a heating and cooling request with your existing equipment, utility, and comfort priorities. Temperaly does not approve rebates; a request is not an appointment.
